A house manager is a senior role within the private home working directly with the principal of the household, often overseeing a large number of staff.
House Managers are responsible for the smooth day to day running of the household, managing outside contractors, Butlers, Housekeepers, Chef’s, PA’s and Childcare staff. The role of a House Manager is extremely varied and can include maintaining the IT systems, security detail, household accounts, purchasing, managing F&B, and household inventories.
Household Mangers must be able to think on their feet and be able to multitask and delegate to members of staff. Household Managers often have 5* hotel management experience, multiple languages and have a high level of experience within all the required elements.
Starting salaries are from £ GBP 40,000 per year and upwards to £ GBP 150,000 for exceptional candidates depending on qualifications/experience and previous salaries acquired. Salaries are based upon a 5 or 5.5 days per week 8/12 hour days.
